POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS
Your voice is hoarse, scratchy, fails quickly or breaks. You have to clear your throat or cough constantly. Your voice is too low, too high, you are often out of breath or in pain.
THE BACKGROUND
Functional voice disorders
Hyper- or hypofunctional voice disorders, dysphonia mixta
Organically caused voice disorders
Occurs with vocal fold nodules (“singer’s nodules”), vocal fold paralysis, polyps, edema, cysts on the vocal folds or paralysis of the vocal folds (recurrent paresis), neuromuscular dysfunction (Parkinson’s disease), ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), trauma to the larynx (due to accidents, surgery, damage to the vocal folds due to intubation), overflow of gastric acid into the larynx (gastroesophageal reflux) or, for example, removal of parts of the vocal folds. e.g. removal of parts of the vocal folds or the larynx in tumor diseases (partial resections)
Psychogenic voice disorder
Personality disorders, stressful situations and stressful life events can play a significant role in the development of a psychogenic voice disorder. It occurs independently of any vocal stress. The extreme form is psychogenic aphonia in the form of a complete loss of voice with simultaneously inconspicuous organic laryngeal findings.
THERAPY METHODS

POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS
Poluttering
Poluttering is manifested by increased speech rate, omissions, and blending of sounds, syllables, or words. In addition, there are often many sentence breaks, rephrasings and phrases, as well as interruptions similar to stuttering.
Stuttering
In stuttering, symptoms such as involuntary repetitions, stretches, and blocking occur. Usually these are also characterized by accompanying symptoms such as whole-body tension and avoidance of social situations or individual words.
1
POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS
Speech disorders, word-finding difficulties, pauses in speech, word confusion, abbreviations, use of filler words or paraphrases
THE BACKGROUND
(Aphasia) occur when there is a disorder of the speech center in the brain.
THE CAUSES
Causes can include strokes, brain hemorrhages, accidental brain injuries, brain tumors, or inflammatory diseases of the brain and brain degeneration processes.
THERAPY METHODS
- Word retrieval disorders in aphasia (Dr. Lorzen & Dr. Wunderlich)

1
POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS
Silent and monotonous speech, unclear pronunciation, incorrect phonation, altered speech melody, conspicuously slow or fast syllable flow, coordination disorders of the speech musculature, speech blockades, very fast speech rate
THE BACKGROUND
In dysarthria, the control and execution of speech movements are affected. The term dysarthrophonia is often used synonymously with the term dysarthria. Dysarthrophonia literally means that both pronunciation (articulation) and voice (phonation) are affected. People who suffer exclusively from dysarthria do not have a speech disorder. This means that they can understand, write and read normally. However, dysarthria can also occur at the same time as aphasia (speech disorder), in which case the areas of speech comprehension and speech production are affected in addition to speech motor skills, voice, and breathing.
THE CAUSES
Causes can be, for example, a craniocerebral trauma (e.g. after an accident), strokes, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis (MS) or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
THERAPY METHODS
- Novafon
1
POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS
Frequent swallowing, difficulty swallowing, globus sensation in the throat area.
THE BACKGROUND
Dysphagia is a swallowing disorder. Patients frequently swallow because, for example, they can no longer crush the food sufficiently or cannot feel exactly whether the mouth is already empty or whether there are still remnants remaining in the mouth.
THE CAUSES
In this case, the causes are usually dementia, MS disease, strokes, sequelae of surgical interventions or consequences of accidents.
THERAPY METHODS
- Swallowing disorders- dysphagia, basic seminar (2. days, Mrs. Haulitschek & Höfer, Munich)
- Tracheal cannula management
1
POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS
problems with articulation, disturbed speech melody, formation of wrong sounds in words
THE BACKGROUND
Apraxia of speech is a disorder of planning of speech movements. It is manifested in the area of articulation, speech melody and rhythm (prosody) and speech behavior.
THE CAUSES
Causes include strokes, traumatic brain injury, brain tumors, or inflammatory brain processes.

1
POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS
Delayed development of language skills, e.g., poor language comprehension, deficits in grammar & morphology, vocabulary deficits (lexicon), and limited semantics.
THE BACKGROUND
Language developmental disorders (SES) affect communication, language comprehension, vocabulary, and sound, word, and sentence formation. Multiple areas are often affected simultaneously in SES.
THERAPY METHODS
- Confidently conducting difficult parent conversations, (Dr. phil. Hinze, Munich)
- The discovery of language: development, abnormalities, early detection and therapy, (Dr. phil. Barbara Zollinger, Munich)
- The vocabulary collector, ( Prof. Dr. Motsch, Memmingen)
- Nonviolent communication (V. Claves)
- LCC TESOL certificate: teaching english as a second language
- Morphological disorders in children: Diagnostics & Therapy (Kathrin Riederer)
1
POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS
e.g. lisp, schetismus lateralis, rhotacism, forward displacement of sibilants
THE BACKGROUND
Phonetic Pronunciation Disorder
Here the phonation of one or more sounds does not correspond to the so-called “standard pattern” of speech, i.e. a sound is not formed or even formed incorrectly. In German, the most frequently affected sounds are the sibilants (lisp).
Phonological Pronunciation Disorder
Disorders in the acquisition of the rules for the combination of sounds can be expressed in it. For example, when the sound /sch/ has not yet been acquired and it is replaced by a /s/ (snake→ slange).
THERAPY METHODS
- Verbal developmental dyspraxia, (diagnosis and therapy according to VeDiT, Dr. Schulte-Mäter, Munich)
- P.O.P.T. Psycholinguistically oriented phonology therapy (Annette V. Fox)
1
POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS
e.g. incomplete mouth closure, mouth breathing, pathological tongue resting position (e.g. interdental- lying between the teeth), visceral swallowing pattern, hypersalivation (increased salivation), sensory and motor deficits of the tongue (restricted tongue mobility), forward displacement of the tongue during speech, with overall unbalanced muscles in the mouth, face, and throat area.
THE BACKGROUND
Functional orofacial disorder is a disorder of the musculature in the mouth-facial area. It affects the movement, coordination and muscular balance of all structures involved in swallowing (cheek, lip and tongue muscles).
A pronunciation disorder (sigmatism/schetism) may also occur.
THERAPY METHODS
- Myofunctional diagnostics & therapy, (Mrs. Kittel)
- SZET concept: efficient therapy of swallowing and tongue rest (Steffi Kuhrt)

1
POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS
Distracted or unfocused behavior, verbal instructions & tasks cannot be internalized, rhymes and poems cannot be memorized.
In the case of a selection disorder (filtering out information), for example, a conversation with a person can be more difficult or no longer followed if background noise, such as traffic noise, can be heard at the same time. Children with a selection disorder find it difficult, for example, to filter out sounds from words in school when there is ambient noise, i.e. they then do not understand what a teacher is saying.
With a disorder of discrimination, for example, similar-sounding sounds or syllables (e.g. /p/ – /b/ or /pa/ – /ba/) are not perceived as different. This can result in spoken words not being understood or even misunderstood.
THE BACKGROUND
Auditory processing disorders are disorders in the further processing of heard information. There is neither a disorder of the auditory organ itself nor a loss of intelligence.
Auditory processing and perception disorders (AVDs), also called auditory processing disorders (AVDs), are disorders of the further processing of heard information. There is neither a disorder of the auditory organ itself nor a loss of intelligence. The disorders affect the auditory nerve. The auditory nerve transmits information to the cerebrum, where it is further processed. The process of further processing is divided into auditory sub-functions, which can be affected in different ways and to different degrees. Auditory subfunctions include: Localization (direction and distance of the sound source), Discrimination (distinguishing), Selection (filtering out) and Dichotic Hearing (binaural hearing).
THERAPY METHODS
- AVS & LRS in everyday speech therapy (Mareike Plath)
- Marburg spelling training (Dr. Schulte-Körner)

THE GOAL
In this group workshop for a maximum of 10 trans* people we will work together on the most important points of voice transition. We will go from voice exercises and an important theoretical part on voice function to a general exchange on the topic of voice and techniques in body language and posture for a successful voice transition. We accompany you on your way!
THERAPY METHODS
- La Kru – Voice Transition
- (Stephanie Kruse & Thomas Lascheit)
1
THE GOAL
Especially in the field of nursing, specialized knowledge and extended knowledge from the speech therapy field is very important. In our workshops we cover a whole range of obligatory topics, which should simplify the daily routine in the nursing profession. Therapeutic oral care, the physiology of swallowing, the recognition of swallowing disorders (dysphagia), appropriate eating support as well as the consistencies of foods and their food level are essential parts of the workshop.
Dysphagia as an emergency
Dysphagia (swallowing disorder) is often seen as a problem in care facilities, but at least as often we experience that great insecurity in dealing with it prevails. In fact, practices from long ago, such as butter for oral care, are still passed on from one professional generation to the next.
With the numbers we know, it’s worth taking a closer look at how best to manage residents who suffer from dysphagia.
85% of residents in nursing facilities suffer from dysphagia (source Bibliomed-Pflege) 15% of residents develop aspiration pneumonia (triggered by dysphagia) Cause of death No. 1 in patients with dysphagia is aspiration pneumonia.
1
THE GOAL
Executives, consultants, recruiters, young professionals, teachers, speech professionals and many more can gain a lot of knowledge in these workshops with their colleagues or team.
In seminars with a maximum of 12 people, the group is specifically coached to present themselves competently and to speak confidently and effectively in customer or sales meetings, lectures, presentations or telephone consultations. All contents are of course individually adapted to the requirements of the respective group.
Depending on the arrangement, the workshops take place on the LAVOLÉ premises and last 1-2 days of 8 hours each. A lunch break is of course included.
